The Only Thing We Can Control

The only thing we can control is our thinking. However, this is not easy, and in fact, this is the hardest thing we can ever do.

Before I was diagnosed with MS, I was not aware I was constantly thinking. And I did not know I had the power to choose my thoughts. This diagnosis woke me up to my inner life of thoughts and feelings. It made discover my power to notice my thoughts and choose them.

In his book “The Science of Getting Rich”, Wallace Wattles writes: “To think what you want to think is to think TRUTH, regardless of appearances. Every man has the natural and inherent power to think what he wants to think, but it requires far more effort to do so than it does to think the thoughts which are suggested by appearances. To think according to appearance is easy; to think truth regardless of appearances is laborious, and requires the expenditure of more power than any other work man is called upon to perform.”

It is so hard because we naturally think according to the emotions stored in our body. Emotions are the result of an experience. We are addicted to the emotions we memorized from a past experience. It helps us tremendously to control our thinking if we liberate these suppressed emotions that are keeping us stuck in the past.

In his book “Breaking the habit of being yourself”, Dr. Joe Dispenza writes: “Warning: when feelings become the means of thinking, or if we cannot think greater than how we feel, we can never change. To change is to think greater than how we feel. To change is to act greater than the familiar feelings of the memorized self.”

He further explains:In this moment, it seems impossible to think greater than how you feel – and that’s why it’s so hard to change”. The greatest addiction we can ever break is the addicting of being ourselves!

First we must become aware of our thoughts. We must notice the thoughts passing through our mind. We must learn that we are not those thoughts. Meditation is our greatest tool! We must learn to control our conscious thoughts.

We can choose to entertain only thoughts that make us feel good instead of thoughts that make us feel bad. When we take control of our conscious mind, our subconscious mind hears that we have taken control and starts believing what we tell ourselves.

Yogi Bhajan was so accurate when he said We live in a state of hypnosis”. This state of hypnosis makes it very hard to wake up. It is an ongoing journey for me.
